NEW FOR 2018 – Fibreknight Optical Fibre Identifier FK/OFI/1001

New from Fibreknight the Optical Fibre Identifier (OFI) is a low cost, competitively priced alternative to more expensive high power visual fault locators. Based on the high quality MagLite AA flashlight, the OFI includes a 1 Watt Bi-Pin Philips LED lamp for high illumination of the optical fibre under test, together with an on/off pushbutton for ease of use.

The OFI is available with three different adaptors designed and tested for use on a wide range of fibre optic termini sizes and connector styles plus multiple optical fibre sizes e.g. 9/125, 50/125, 62.5/125, 100/140, 200/280 µm. The adaptors are manufactured from high quality and durable Delrin rod and have been machined to tight tolerances to ensure optimisation of the emitted light into the optical fibre. The adaptors are designed to be used with simplex connectors, without the need to remove the terminus assembly from the connector as well as bare termini. They also have a chamfered tip that can be used to inject light into a terminus installed in a recessed cavity.

                                             

There are three adaptors available suitable for use with the following sized termini:

FK/ADAPT/12    1.25 mm termini (LC, MU, ARINC801, LuxCis)

FK/ADAPT/16    1.6 mm MIL-AERO termini (MIL-PRF-29504)

FK/ADAPT/25    2.5 mm termini (FC, SC, ST, E2000, ELIO, EN 4531, HA, MFM)

The OFI can also be used across a wide range of applications, examples include:

The OFI LED produces a steady white light beam reducing some of the issues of high energy transmitted light, such as that from a visual fault locator where pulsed laser light is transmitted through the fibre. However, it is not recommended that users never directly look at any light source being transmitted directly from any device.

Optical link lengths

The OFI has been tested on lengths of both multimode (50/125 µm & 62.5/125 µm) & singlemode (9/125 µm) fibres, approximate distances capable of transmitting visible light are:

50/125 – 62.5/125 µm                      up to 200 metres

9/125 µm                                            up to 100 metres

Larger core fibres                             up to 250 metres
